Originally, Ex Norwegian was planned to perform at Miami’s most accessible castle and on a chilly afternoon day, Roger, Nina, and Arturo stormed the castle with an arsenal of percussive equipment, a melodica, and two guitars. Upon performing some tests, it was learned that the street noise and other distracting factors would not be suitable to film this performance. Ultimately, the band appeared playing to a crowd of hundreds in Miami’s public cemetery to everyone’s delight.

“The song has a catchy hook and positive message to continue fighting against all odds. We were impressed by the tightness and professionalism of the band. I still find myself singing the song in my head to this day. I believe the resting souls enjoyed the performance that afternoon as much as we did. How often do the departed have the benefit of witnessing such a delightful treat on their turf?” said Steve Imas, video director.

On Thursday, April 15, 2010 @ 9PM South Florida’s indie rockers Ex Norwegian are hosting a concert event titled “Rock The FED Out” at Churchill’s, Miami’s premier space for live rock music to raise awareness about the Federal Reserve and the income tax.

In an effort to increase awareness, participation, and support for auditing the Federal Reserve, Ex Norwegian will perform at the event alongside Americana band Los Bastardos Magnificos, electroacoustic singer-songwriter Xela Said, truth poet/rapper LMS, reggae group Heartroots, The Black Rabbits from Asheville, NC and special one-off all-star group Tariff who will be performing classic tax songs such as “Taxman” by the Beatles. The band will include members of DC3, Dreaming In Stereo, Ex Norwegian & Jim Camacho band.

Most American’s do not realize that the Federal Reserve System which prints out our dollar bills is not a governmental branch or function; it is a private bank/corporation. Thus, each dollar gets loaned to the United States at an interest. The income tax money the IRS collects, a quasi-government agency itself, is used to pay off this never ending debt. This scheme should outrage honest, tax-paying Americans, and sure enough, more and more people are waking up to reality. This concert event is to alert people about problem with the system and how the people still hold the power, if we choose to use it. Currently, there are bills in Congress and the Senate which will do the legal and moral thing, audit the Fed.

Formed in 2008, the band launched at the CMJ Music Festival in New York that year. Their 2009 debut “Standby” featured the college radio hits “Something Unreal” & “Dance Trance Pants” and was ranked #1 South Florida album of ’09 by City Link. Maybe Hip is a new independent pop culture-focused internet television network, a place where original video entertainment centers on all things that may – or may not – be hip. The band is very excited to be featured on the 15th episode of the fun and influential internet TV series, particularly with their good friend and local buddy Rachel Goodrich.

The band is more than happy to help the humanitarian help efforts for Haiti who has hit by a devastation earthquake of a 7.0 magnitude on January 12th. However, guitarist Roger Houdaille is wary of the U.S. military and U.N. gaining control – almost by default – over the effort. “It seems that they took over and they are on an agenda that isn’t necessarily humanitarian.  After all, we can’t forget that in 2004 the US sponsored the coup d’etat that removed Haiti’s president and helped create the military state it became. I find it hard to take them serious, and the news reports of them getting rid of doctors and how disorganized things are, yet millions are being spent…it’s all very troubling.”

The band also advised to research who you are donating to very well, and avoid the big guys such as Red Cross if you can.

Real World enthusiasts may be wondering who is the excellent chopped up music behind the bio and meeting of Erika & Josh in the series premiere of the new season (23rd) of MTV’s show. Wonder no more, as for it was Ex Norwegian, indie rock trio from Miami Beach, FL, home of the fifth season of the popular show. Their songs “Fresh Pit” and “Don’t Bother” are in the background for the two rockers of this season. The band looks forward to more appearances of their music throughout the season, so keep your ears and mind open.

It also has been remembered in other lists, including Miami New Times and Slack A Go-Go at #30. Meanwhile, Ex Norwegian’s second album is being recorded now and hopes to be released in the spring this year. The band has also asked for fans to help finance the record via a chip in widget which acts as a pre-order as well. The model isn’t too formal, as bassist Nina Souto pointed out, “it’s really simple, the more you give, the more you will get!”  Recommended donation to get a copy of the finished CD is $10; however, if you give less, you will still get the album in mp3 format.

Ex Norwegian have created a profile to raise funds for their next album on SellaBand.

SellaBand is the fan funding platform for music artists. Established acts like Public Enemy and well-known musicians like Chris Difford of Squeeze are using this site challenging the traditional way music business works, starting with the fans first, then artists create from there.

With SellaBand, Ex Norwegian’s Roger Houdaille says “We want to raise money for the next album and have our fans help us out in the process, even though its financial, by doing that they are also inspiring us.” It also serves as a giant pre-order, as everyone who invests is guaranteed a copy of the album. The more you invest, the more perks you receive, including autographed CD’s, merch and the ultimate custom set list…either video-taped or played live in your city. Further incentive includes getting a piece of the pie.

“This is the exciting part,” Houdaille goes on, “Having the fans help promote the record, and have them recoup their investment (and possibly more) if we are successful together.”

The new album, which is stated to be different than the forthcoming ‘Sketch One’ mini-album, is slated for February release.

Ex Norwegian will perform twice this week for the 1st annual Miami Music Festival. MMF is the nation’s newest showcase and conference for emerging musical acts and features a variety of musical genres from Florida and across the nation.

The bands two performances will take place on Thursday, December 10th @ Tobacco Road (11pm, patio stage) & Friday, December 11th @ the Miami.com stage behind Transit Lounge @ 1am. For the latter show, the band will perform their entire debut album, Standby, for the first time as a three-piece.

Miami’s Ex Norwegian is making their last non-Florida appearance for 2009 at NYC’s International Pop Overthrow, November 8th. They will perform a half-hour set at the finale of the 6-day event, Sunday night at 11pm. This years IPO in NYC will be held at the infamous Kenny’s Castaways on Bleeker St.

International Pop Overthrow (or IPO, as it has affectionately become known) is a pop music festival which has been held for the past eleven years in Los Angeles.  IPO has expanded in the last few years to Chicago, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Toronto, as well as in Liverpool, England (at the world famous Cavern Club).
